'I'm a happy priest'

For more than 70 years Msgr. Ferdinand DeCneudt, the oldest priest in the archdiocese, has celebrated Sunday Mass. These days he can no longer stand, so a wheelchair-accessible table is dressed in front of the main altar at Our Lady Queen of All Saints Church for the 11 a.m. Sunday liturgy so the 97-year-old priest can continue to minister as he has done since 1939.

As a child, I was like any typical little girl. I loved playing with my baby dolls and Barbies; however, for some reason I would play dress up pretending I was the Blessed Mother. Faith Matters: Parish nurse gains new insight into one man's enduring faith

I am the parish nurse at St Joan of Arc Parish in St Clair Shores. One of the services that our Health Ministry Team provides to our parishioners is home visits to sick, homebound, lonely or elderly parishioners for prayer, Eucharist distribution, health counseling and companionship. Archbishop Allen Vigneron's proposal to revive First Friday devotions was met with enthusiasm by a local group that has made gathering for Mass the first Friday of each month a regular practice for more than a decade.
 
The ancient Chinese philosopher, Lao-tzu, said, "a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." The journey to meet my sponsored child, Kumari Gudime, began nearly nine years ago when a priest traveled to my parish, Our Lady of the Woods, in Woodhaven, and spoke about the Christian Foundation for Children and Aging.

As people begin to respond to the call for donations to aid victims of the Feb. 27 earthquake in Chile, contributions to Haiti earthquake relief efforts collected and sent to Catholic Relief Services by the Archdiocese of Detroit neared $1.5 million as of March 2.

Catholics who think Church teaching requires every dying 90-year-old to be hooked up to a feeding tube are misunderstanding and distorting what the Church teaches, a Jesuit priest who is also a medical doctor told Catholic healthcare workers last Sunday.
