Standardized Testing Program
The Archdiocese of Detroit participates in standardized testing programs toward the objective of improving instruction.

Standardized testing is only one means to evaluate the quality of the school. Because each child is an individual, he or she will flourish best in the school environment which meets his or her unique needs as a "whole" person. We encourage you to schedule a visit with the individual school to speak with principals, teachers and other staff members to determine the best "fit" for your child.

IOWA Basics

Elementary students are required to take the Iowa Test of Basic skills in grades 3, 5, & 7. All elementary schools are urged to test all students yearly so that progress can be measured. These tests are achievement batteries that provide unique information about individual students and classes for use in instructional planning.

Cognitive Abilities Test

Students in grade 1 take the Cognitive Abilities Test, which measures the level and pattern of cognitive development. The grade 1 test is NOT an achievement test.

High School Placement Test

Public as well as non-public school students in grade 8 planning to attend a Catholic High School, take the High School Placement Test.

ACT and/or SAT

Students in grades 11 & 12 have the option to take the ACT and/or SAT.

Test Scores

The Archdiocese of Detroit does not publish test scores for individual schools but releases information on schools as a whole. You may contact the Catholic Schools Office, or the individual school, for specific test results.
